It's always fun to start things with a story. 

 

Here's the story that got us thinking. Once upon a time, a few years ago, an entrepreneur friend came to me with a pickle he got himself into. A few months ago, he decided to start a business and knew he needed a vendor contract and non disclosure agreement before starting to manufacture his product.. So there's no revenue and but there's the legal fee of a traditional full-service law firm. The entrepreneur had two options-   to succumb to the exorbitant pricing ("hey, this is an essential business cost!) or skip it the process of having proper vital documentation in place all together putting their business at risk.  ("It's fine, I can do without all this paperwork.")

 

And so he picked the middle path -he got the vendor contract and decided he didn't need the non-disclosure draft. The vendor contract he got from his lawyer is a standard template contract, excessively long, verbose,  full of unnecessary jargon and often irrelevant clauses - all of which became huge road blocks.

 

The vendor never signed. Finally, the vendor took the concept and pitched it to his other clients as a new product that he could manufacture for them.

 

And now he wanted to know what he could do.

Sounded pretty unfair. Sounded like something we could solve for.

We saw two challenges businesses were facing with respect to their legal needs that no one was solving for  - prohibitive pricing & legal servicing that took limited consideration of the business context.​

​

So after a little research, a little soul searching and a little hustle to build up a network of great legal experts & entrepreneurs, the Bombay Legal was born.

(Yes, some of the soul searching involved watching lots of the Boston Legal tv show which inspired our name)
